The Future of Mobile Phones for the Events Industry

The revolution in meetings management and business processes

by Corbin Ball, CMP, Meetings Technology, Professional Speaker and Consultant

There are over three billion mobile phone subscribers globally. This is more than the number of flush-toilets and televisions combined! Eighty percent of the world's population is within mobile phone coverage range and this will increase to 90 percent by 2010. This mobile revolution will transform the way that humans communicate, get information, find our way around, buy things, and the way that event professionals (already a highly mobile lot) will do business.

The events industry revolution ... Saying no to a VP ... Part-time vs. temps

Hello. I'm Rob Murphy, chief marketing officer of MC² and this month's editor of eConnections.

Have you ever had a funny (disastrous or heartwarming) experience at an event or en route to or from a show? If so, share your story. Let everyone benefit from your past, and you could receive a gift.

This month, industry guru Corbin Ball shares his insights into the future of the event industry. See what he has to say in this month's feature article about how the mobile phone will change the way we all do business.

Also be sure to check out what our readers have to say about dealing with a VP who wants an exhibits manager to change vendors. And help out another reader who asks, "Is it better to hire a part-time employee or temps?" Any comments you send in enter you in a drawing for a video iPod®. Thanks for all your input!

What’s Your Best Advice?

Last Issue's DilemmaLast Issue's Dilemma:

Is it OK to give a VP a polite N-O?

A new VP has been hired to oversee the exhibits department, and he's encouraging me to go to a new vendor -- who just happens to be a friend of his. I have a long-standing relationship for these services with another vendor who knows my company and our needs. Plus, he's always done a good job when working with us. Can I/should I say no to the VP? Give the other vendor a try? Or what? -- Marjie, Exhibits Manager

This Issue's DilemmaThis Issue's Dilemma:

Is that the cavalry I see on the horizon?

After two years of begging, I finally have cash in my budget to hire some help. I have enough to hire one part-time employee -- or several temps on an as-needed basis. Which would be the better option, and why?
