Embrace the Future of Chevy (Continued) image

Chevrolet engineers have managed to build a radical car that seems so normal it'll make you feel completely comfortable with electric hybrid technology.

The four-door subcompact is futuristic without looking like it doesn't belong in your driveway. You'll find the features you've come to love in other Chevy vehicles are available with the Volt. From safety features like ABS, traction control and side and knee airbags to a navigation system, leather upholstery and heated seats, much about driving the Volt is familiar.

The Volt accelerates, brakes and drives exactly like a smooth, new car should; except for one thing. The transmission is so quiet you can't hear it shift. That's because it uses battery power. But this is a different kind of electric car.

With many hybrids, the gasoline engines and battery-powered electric motors provide power to the drive wheels. With Volt, the wheels are always driven by electricity, provided either by the on board battery or the gasoline engine that powers a generator. You can drive the Volt for 40 miles on battery power alone before the generator kicks in.

And you don't stop at 40 miles. Extended range means a gas engine will allow you to keep driving up to 300 more miles. For commuters driving under 40 miles a day, that means you use little to no gasoline at all. At night, you simply plug in the car to recharge the battery.

Recharging your car and using a battery may feel foreign at first, but imagine something else you're not used to - being able to avoid a gas station for weeks or even months.

The Volt's price tag1 will start around $40,000, but don't forget to subtract the big $7500 tax credit you'll get for purchasing such an environmentally-friendly vehicle.

Attractive leasing will be offered, and with an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty on the lithium battery, there's not much left to hold you back from joining Chevrolet in embracing the future... and loving it.
