| Maintaining Your Car... on the Outside |

| For many of us, there's a little sticker on our windshield that tells us when our next oil change is due. But there's no little sticker that tells you when to change your windshield wiper blades or when to wash the car. It's time to take time to think about the outside of your car, too. |

If you've ever been in a rainstorm or a snow squall, you know how important wiper fluid and good blades are. When old, cracked blades just push water or dirt around, you lose visibility in a hurry and greatly increase the chance of an accident.
Wiper blades actually receive their greatest abuse while sitting in the sun. So just like checking tire pressure twice a year, do the same with wiper blades. And keep your windshield clean so there's less dirt to push away.
In fact, keep your whole car clean. It'll mean a higher resale value when it comes time to get a new car. A car with faded paint and a dingy overall look sells for 10-20 percent less than an identical vehicle that just looks nicer.
Frequent washing is the single best thing you can do to maintain your vehicle's finish, but careless washing can leave the paint in worse condition than when you started.
With automatic car washes, be sure it's "brushless." Some older car washes still use abrasive brushes (instead of cloth), which can leave small scratches in a car's finish. A safe bet is "touchless" car washes that use only high-pressure water jets and detergents to clean the car -- without physically touching it at all. There is virtually no chance of your vehicle suffering any cosmetic damage this way.
Washing it yourself may seem like the best choice, but you can do more damage than any automatic wash. Dish soap, laundry soap and household cleaners do major damage to paint and the protective coating. Choosing the wrong kind of cloth can cause small scratches in the finish.
Your best bet... from the wiper blades to your vehicle's finish... is to let us give it the once-over. Jupiter Chevrolet wants your vehicle to look like it did the day you drove it off the lot. |
