Feature Story
Blend Blogging into Your Marketing Mix
A quick, free and easy way to get your message out there
by Meryl K. Evans, Editor, Email Marketing Insider
Feature
The Olympics arrive this month in Beijing. Talk to coaches in different events, and they'll have one thing in common: using different strategies. If players stick to one strategy, their opponents quickly figure it out and adjust their game. Every action becomes predictable, and the opponent takes the advantage.
The marketing department not only wants to stay ahead of the competition and keep them guessing, but also reach the target market through its preferred means for receiving the message. Even within the same target market, some like to read Weblogs (better known as blogs), others like newsletters, still others like RSS feeds and some use a mix. Each medium shares one thing: content. Having a blog connects your newsletter, your Web site and your business with all of your market.

Spread your message further and wider with blogs
We love email newsletters. OK, so we're biased. We also believe blogging blends nicely into the marketing mix. Sometimes your target market may not find its way to your newsletter or blog and vice versa. This month's feature story digs into the big blog world.
Loyalty programs come with strong opinions. Some believe points don't work. Others think they keep current customers happy. Readers share their thoughts on loyalty programs.
Burnout hits most of us even multiple times at some point in our lives, whether it be related to our career or something we do in our spare time. One reader has a sales star who has lost his shine. He would appreciate your advice: What can he do to help the star sparkle again?
In the meantime, don't let us get lazy with this newsletter just because it's summer on this side of our little world. Tell us what needs fixin' or what you'd like to see in future issues. Again, we have an enticement for your time by putting your name into a drawing for an Amazon.com gift certificate for $50.
Best,

What's Your Best Advice?
Last Issue's Dilemma:
Which customer loyalty programs keep a marriage happy? Last Issue's Dilemma
I know the importance of telling customers how important they are to a company. Our company has been in business for a while, and we're at the point where we have enough customers to implement a loyalty program.
What loyalty programs are effective? Or do they not work as well as they should?
-- Karen, Sales Manager See what other readers had to say.

This Issue's Dilemma:
My sales star has lost his luster This Issue's Dilemma
Our top salesperson has great sales numbers. But his conduct leaves a lot to be desired. He's notorious for cherry-picking customers, and he refuses to do the administrative part of his job because he's "too busy selling." Needless to say, no one in the company likes him.
Should I let him go, despite the potential loss of revenue? Or is there some way I can make him a star in every area of his job?
