Make Your Next Event Less ‘Eventful’

The importance of safeguarding people and property at events.

A conversation with event security expert Robert Anderson

Exhibit and event professionals are busy people. Whether you’re organizing an event or preparing to participate in one, you have a million things to think about and coordinate — all the while keeping a watchful eye on your budget. Read more ...

Whose eyes are on your event? ... To give or not to give ... Pocketing leads

Hello. I'm Rob Murphy, chief marketing officer for MC².

We'd all like to think every hotel and venue is secure, and every person is honest and law-abiding. But neither of these is true. That's why each organizer and exhibitor must take responsibility for show security. In this month's feature article, Robert Anderson, an event security expert, explains the elements of security to consider for every event.

In our last issue, an events manager pondered the value of giveaways. Our readers share their opinions on these event mainstays. Many companies judge their success at events, at least in part, according to the number of acquired leads. So, what should you do when sales reps in your booth pocket the leads instead of entering them into your system? An events coordinator would appreciate your suggestions.

And speaking of appreciation, we'd like to thank all of our loyal readers as we begin the fifth year of our publication. We hope to continue bringing you relevant information for many years to come!

What’s Your Best Advice?

Previous Issue's Dilemma:

Are giveaways a 'given'?

Our "giveaway" budget has been severely cut back to reduce costs. But our long-term, repeat conference attendees have come to expect a pile of freebies as part of their relatively expensive registration fee. What can we offer as alternatives? Are there any well-received, low-cost items we can provide that will keep our attendees happy? Better yet, how can we wean them from expecting freebies? After all, aren't tchotchkes passé?

— Charles, Events Manager

This Issue's Dilemmas:

How do I handle suits with big pockets?

Big pockets

Salespeople at our exhibit are pocketing business cards. Not only does this make it impossible for me to track the number of leads we get, it’s unfair to the salespeople back at the office. Is there some way I can get them to swipe badges like they’re supposed to?
